"With this program they're feeling very successful, and I feel that when a child is successful they're willing to become risk takers and to try it and to go even a little bit further ... that's what I've seen them do."

"The children get really excited whenever I say it's time for our NewPhonics program. Probably the most exciting thing for them is saying the "silly language" and the cheers."

"Seeing the kids so excited about learning to read and trying to sound out the sounds is just incredible."

"The parents, right from the beginning, have said 'Well I think this program is great, it's working, the kids are learning the sounds, they're really enjoying it.' It's hard to make learning fun and this is the key. I know it works, the kids enjoy it, but hearing it from parents, that it's positive and that they are continuing to use [NewPhonics] in the home to further the reading experience, is just wonderful."

"Teaching reading readiness in the past has been like pulling teeth ... Now, with the NewPhonics program it's been painless and exciting."

"The kids really look forward to the NewPhonics program. When they sit down they're so curious about what puppet we're going to learn next and they really can predict what the cheers are going to be."

"The sound-symbol cheers play a big part in this program because everyone is moving their complete body and really getting involved in saying the cheers. They all feel special because they are individual cheer leaders and it helps for that reinforcement of the sound. I never have to say 'Let's get started' because everyone's ready to move back and forth and enjoy themselves at the same time. And that's a big part of it - to enjoy and have a lot of fun."
